Arching Pines Bed and Breakfast recently hosted a lovely couple visiting from Spain. They intended to stop briefly on their way to Algonquin Park and ended up staying three days (I had no room for them the fourth day or they would have stayed longer).
They loved Abbey Gardens, the Wolf Centre and the hikes they did in the Haliburton Forest. Given this was May 23 and 24th, they quickly learned the Haliburton walk—waving your hands in front of your face and not stopping for anything! The black flies were bad on their second day. Both days they did something that few in Haliburton would do this early in the spring—they went swimming! Not once, but twice.
They had no regrets about not getting to Algonquin Park and felt that they had a wonderful relaxing vacation. They loved the Highlands!
