Inclusion of Short-Term Rentals on MHH Website:
This document outlines the criteria for including short-term rentals (STRs) on the MyHaliburtonHighlands.com website (MHH). The goal is to ensure that featured properties align with our brand values and provide a consistent, high-quality experience for visitors to the Haliburton Highlands.
Eligibility Criteria:
Registration and Compliance:

- STRs must provide proof of registration and compliance with local by-laws, including the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) that will be implemented in 2025.
- Properties must remain in good standing with local regulations, meaning they must not have accumulated excessive demerit points or violations that could jeopardize their license. Properties that lose good standing due to infractions may be removed from MyHaliburtonHighlands.com until compliance is restored.
Independent Website Requirement:

- Booking information or links to booking platforms.
- Contact information for the owner or property manager.
- Information about the property’s adherence to local regulations.
Quality Standards:
- STRs should maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and customer service.
- Properties should offer amenities and services that align with the expectations for tourism in the Haliburton Highlands (e.g., Wi-Fi, parking, access to local attractions).
Local Experience and Integration:
- STRs should highlight their connection to the local community and contribute positively to the visitor experience in the Haliburton Highlands.
- Preference may be given to properties that support or promote local businesses, attractions, and events.
Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility:
- Properties that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, such as eco-friendly practices or energy-efficient amenities, may receive priority.
- STRs should comply with local environmental regulations and initiatives, such as waste management and water conservation.
Marketing and Branding Alignment:
- STRs should align with the branding and marketing strategies of MyHaliburtonHighlands.com.
- The property’s presentation on its website, including photos and descriptions, should reflect the natural beauty, tranquility, and unique character of the Haliburton Highlands.
