The Haliburton Sculpture Forest in partnership with Fleming College Haliburton School of Art + Design present From Mathematics to Art with George Hart.
The beauty of mathematics has been a source of artistic inspiration at least since classical times, with a major surge in the Renaissance, and continuing strongly to the present. Mathematician/sculptor George Hart extends this tradition by designing and building geometrically informed sculpture that generally involves computer technology and laser-cutting in their design and fabrication. This highly visual talk will present examples of Hart’s work, show some of his methods, and discuss some of the underlying ideas of patterns and symmetry.
George will be working with a group of College and High School on Friday, October 3rd to create a large mathematical sculpture for the Haliburton Sculpture Forest. For more information about George Hart and his work, please visit www.georgehart.com
This is a free event, we look forward to seeing you!
Photo Credit: George Hart. This large wood sculpture is called “Eddy” because of the design’s swirling sense of motion, like a ball of water. Eddy was created by students.
