The Almost Forgotten Children by Joan Knighton

The history behind the migration of 100,000 children from the UK to Canada from 1869-1948ish. Why? How? Outcomes? Joan Knighton is a proud descendent of a British Home Child. She is a former teacher, nurse and ortho tech. In her retirement she enjoys speaking to groups to keep the memory of the children alive.

Surviving Genocide, a Family Testimony – Irv Handler

Irv was raised in Toronto by survivors of the Holocaust. Irv and his wife, Cynthia, retired to the Haliburton Highlands in 2018 and are active in many community activities including the Haliburton Highlands Trekkers and Haliburton Rotary. He shares emotional stories of how his parents and extended family suffered and survived the genocide and how inter-generational trauma affected his life. His presentation may be upsetting to some audiences.
